Torn Together by Emlyn Chand & Giveaway (INT)

Summary: From her cheating boyfriend to her dead father and cold, judgmental mother, Daly knows she can’t trust others to be there when it counts. This cynicism begins to melt away when she meets Kashi, a light-hearted charmer from India, who decides he cares too much to let her fade into the background of her own life. After a series of false starts, their quirky romance carries them to India, where Daly must win the approval of Kashi’s family in order to seal their “forever.”

Meanwhile, Laine struggles to cope with the pain of early widowhood, fleeing into the pages of her well-worn library and emerging only to perform her duties as a social worker at the crisis pregnancy center. Although her daughter wants nothing more than to work as an artist, Laine doesn’t know how to redirect Daly to a more suitable profession without further damaging their tenuous relationship.

Can Laine look past her pain to learn from an unlikely mentor? Has Daly finally found someone whom she can trust? Will the women recognize their common bonds before the relationship is broken beyond repair?

“Torn Together,” Emlyn Chand’s first sojourn into Literary/Women’s Fiction, illustrates how our similarities often drive us apart.

My View: This book is an emotional rollercoaster ride. It takes you through so many different emotions in different settings. As always Emlyn Chand’s characters are way different from the usual ones that greet you in books.

Like Emlyn, I also loved Meghann the most. She is a vivacious character whom I really liked. And her character also reminded me of a couple of other books that I will mention at the end of my review.

I could identify with Laine’s obsession with books, ah! Alright, I admit obsession to that level may be a bit pathological but I did get a few book recommendations in there that I’m going to look at. Did they come from your personal favorites, Emlyn?

The book takes you on a journey from Oxford to India, so many different nuances and tastes await you in there. The quick pace of the book moves into the lives of different characters and how they are interlinked together.

In all, an interesting book.

  1. Thanks for the wonderful review, Pragya. I’m so glad you enjoyed Torn Together, and Megan in particular. Which books have you added to your reading list as a result? Lady Chatterley’s Lover is a must-read! If you have time to cross-post your review to Amazon and GoodReads when the Diwali celebrations have settled down, I’d really appreciate it.

Oh, and thank you for the reference to Jellicle Girl–it’s one of my favorite books and the author is one of my closest friends!
