The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 7th and runs through Sunday, January 13th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 6.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. -From the Bout of Books 6.0 team
I can’t believe it’s already here. My week looks full of so many other things, I am not sure how much I will be able to read.
I plan to read-
and finish reading
Yep, lots of book there to give me some choices. I hope to read at least 6 of these.
Day 1 : 7 January 2013
Books read: Because It Is My Blood (Birthright, #2) by Gabrielle Zevin
Tidal by Emily Snow
Manless in Montclair: Love, Loss, Excessive Dating by Amy Holman Edelman

Manless in Montclair: Love, Loss, Excessive Dating by Amy Holman Edelman

The Page 48 Challenge at Booking in Heels.
- Turn to page 48 of your current book, or 48% if you’re using an e-reader.
- Take the first complete sentence on that page and copy it.
- Now you’re going to continue the story! Ignoring the real plot or anything else you know about that book, add four new sentences of your very own. You can morph the plot completely, kill everybody off or go off on a huge tangent – anything goes!
I wiped rainwater from my eyes and saw dark trees and the sky. The light was fading fast and my destination was still a mile away. I put one foot in front of the other as quick as I could. I had no source of light and was likely to lose my way in the forest if I didn’t get out of there soon. I fished in my pocket to find something, anything to give me solace.
– Flesh, Khanh Ha
Day 4 : 10 January 2013
Books read: Heart of the Ocean by Heather B. Moore
Pages read: 250 + 94 = 344
Total Books Read: 3 – Finished Heart of the Ocean by Heather B. Moore (Read my review) & Tidal by Emily Snow.
And I found a poem in my books that I chose for Bout of Books Goals. 🙂
Queen of dreams
trapped
in the
black city.
Inescapable
rot and ruin.
The sense of an ending.
Day 5 : 11 January 2013
Books read: Beautiful Beings (Beautiful Beings, #1) by Kailin Gow (Read my review.)
Because It Is My Blood (Birthright, #2) by Gabrielle Zevin
Pages read: 288 + 20 = 308

Rewrite the Synopsis Challenge
Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to take any of the books that you have read for this read-a-thon (or plan to read over the last three days), and re-write the synopsis just from the books cover. The aim is to make it sounding completely different from the original synopsis!
Sophia was obsessed with her weight. She was beautiful and everything a man would love. But she was never satisfied with her looks. Gym was where she spent most of her time, burning off the minimal calories she ingested. This is the story of how she lost several potential husbands with her insecurity and obsession and where it lead her in the end.
You can read the original synopsis here. It’s nothing like the one I made up. I loved the book, it’s hilarious.
Day 6 : 12 January 2013
Books read: Finished Bad Apple by Barbara Morgenroth (Read my review here.)
Because It Is My Blood (Birthright, #2) by Gabrielle Zevin
Pages read: 166 + 100 = 266
Total Books Read: 5
What is your Book Crack? What can you NOT SAY NO to? What bookish things make you blissful?
Well, apart from the $3.99 and less on Amazon Kindle, I am also a big fan of review copies as they come free. So I am frequently seen to put myself in misery by taking on a lot of book tours, requesting tons of books from Netgalley and Edelweiss and then panic about posting on time. Also, I am known not to bias between all the free Kindle books up on Amazon and thereby overcrowd my Amazon Cloud and at times my Kindle without knowing if ever I will want to read most of them. But I try, you know!
I would love to know which character you would dress differently, and how!
I just finished reading Bad Apple by Barbara Morgenroth and even though Neal can not afford nice clothes instead of not wanting to wear them. I really want to dress her up.
Her on-stage dress options –
What do you think?
Day 7 : 13 January 2013
Books read: Finished Because It Is My Blood (Birthright, #2) by Gabrielle Zevin
Pages read: 60
Total Books Read: 6
The New Year’s Resolution Challenge!
Pick a book and choose one or several characters from it and make up what would be their New Year’s resolutions if they made any. No need to be realistic, the wilder the better!
I am making New Year’s Resolutions for Anya from Because It Is My Blood (Birthright, #2) by Gabrielle Zevin.
1) Not get a family member/friend killed.
2) Not end up in Liberty Prison.
3) Decide what to do with my life (career choice).
4) To figure out who’s good and who’s the villain amongst my family.
5) To make hot chocolate
6) To make chocolate legal
Sounds good, huh? I hope she can keep up with these in Untitled (Birthright, #3).
Wrap-up
Finished my goal of reading 6 books
Pages read – 1515
Books Read – Manless in Montclair: Love, Loss, Excessive Dating by Amy Holman Edelman – Read my review.
Heart of the Ocean by Heather B. Moore – Read my review.
Tidal by Emily Snow
Beautiful Beings (Beautiful Beings, #1) by Kailin Gow – Read my review.
I used to get NetGalley crazed. I had to give it up, because ME and DEADLINES don’t mix well.
LikeLike
How can you give up NetGalley? *gasp* I don’t do with deadlines too but can’t think of not going to NetGalley. Where do you find that resolve from?

haha pesky PhD! What’s up with that? =)
I am really enjoying Game of Thrones on Audio. I love the narrator–he is super great at making each of the billion characters in this novel vocally unique. I would definitely recommend the audio version to anyone interested in reading this book, but I know it is probably super hard to listen on the metro. But the story itself is great too! A lot of characters, but it’s manageable!
LikeLike
lol rightly said, pesky, it is! I always have a hard time with a lot of characters especially since I have atleast 4-5 books on the go at once. Good luck with your 50% goal, I will probably try the next books on audio if I like this one enough.

6 books is an ambitious goal, but it seems you are well on track for it 🙂
I can sympathize with requesting too many books on Netgalley & Edelweiss. I have done that occasionally on Netgalley. I am now trying to be very conscious about what I request. Maybe one day 😉
Good luck for the last day of Bout of Books!

I request so many from Netgalley & Edelweiss too. Then I panic because I have 10 to read in a month and no time to read other books and swear I won’t do it again. And then next month comes… haha. Vicious cycle. I am not biased to free books too… in fact I have found some of my favorite series through the free Amazon books. The problem is I don’t know if its possible for me to read all the ones I have obtained :S

This is completely unrelated, but I’ve been wondering about it for awhile now. Why do a lot of blogs say in the comment section that they are an ‘award-free zone’?
LikeLike
Thank you! Well, about the award-free. A lots of awards keep making the rounds – best blogger, awesome blog etc and then you have to answer around 10 questions and pass on the award to another 10 blogs while asking them questions. Since it is time consuming so most of us withdraw from wanting an award of that kind.

Isn’t the cover so gorgeous?! 😉 I’ve also heard great things of Finnikin of the Rock, and about Melina Marchetta in general. She’s like the YA book goddess!
Good luck with your goal, and happy reading! ❤
